A 17-year-old student, Shrivanth K Arun, of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, committed suicide, by jumping off a 65-ft tall wall at CMBT metro railway station, while returning from school on Friday around 3 pm. He was identified through his ID card and was a resident of Teynampet.

“Shrivanth bought a ticket from Pachaiyappa station to Arumbakkam. He got down at CMBT metro station and waited till all the passengers left. He then walked to the end of the station, climbed a 4-ft wall and then jumped. The entire incident was captured on CCTV,” said inspector Rajkumar. Shocked passers-by rushed him to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, but he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Since he usually took an MTC bus to reach home, police suspect the teenager might have decided to end his life earlier and purposefully travelled on the Metro. Inquiry with the parents revealed that Shrivanth was an introvert and sensitive by nature. Close associates also said that Shrivanth was academically brilliant and had scored 496/500 in Class 10 board exams. His father Krishnan works as a divisional manager at LIC in Vellore, while the boy stayed with his mother, a homemaker and his younger brother, a student of Class 11 in another private school. CMBT police have registered a case. The post-mortem would take place on Saturday, police said.
In May 2016, 25-year-old engineer Sudhaman of Porur sustained injuries after jumping in front of a metro train at Ashok Nagar station.
