Police arrest man for poisoning dog, 8 cats at Tiruvottiyur
The Tiruvottiyur police have arrested a 45-year-old man for poisoning cats and dogs in the locality. The police said that he killed them because dogs barked at him at night when he was returning home after work.

The accused, identified as Vijayakumar, is a worker at a goldsmith unit in the city.
During interrogation, Vijayakumar told the police that he placed chicken pakoda laced with poison on Munusamy Street. Residents found a dog and eight cats dead the next day morning. Upon checking the CCTV footage in the locality, they saw Vijayakumar dropping a food packet at the street corner before proceeding towards his house.
Based on the footage, the residents informed the Thiruvottiyur police and they, in turn, registered a case and arrested Vijayakumar.
Five bovines electrocuted at Poonamallee
Three buffaloes and two calves were electrocuted after a live wire fell into a pool of stagnant water on Poonamalle bypass road on Monday. The police said that the wire snapped after getting caught on a lorry passing by and it fell into the pool of water. It electrocuted the animals in the water. The police said that Susheela, a resident of the locality, was the owner of the animals and she had let them out to graze in the evening. The police removed the carcasses and are waiting for veterinarians to issue a certificate before they can be handed over to the owner. The Poonamallee police are investigating the incident.
