Crackdown on bike racers continues
The city police continued the crackdown of drag racers on Kamarajar Salai for the third consecutive night on Monday and booked 19 persons, including 12 minors, for allegedly indulging in racing.

In all, 10 bikes were seized for racing and an FIR has been registered against them. “Since there were minors involved, names of their parents or the owners of the bikes have been included in the FIR,” said an officer.Apart from this, police booked 214 cases – 35 for negligent driving, 12 for drunk driving, 10 for triple riding and 157 for riding bikes without helmets. Seven four-wheelers and 22 bikes were seized in this action and their driving licences have been recommended for suspension. On Monday, police had booked 242 cases of traffic violations on Kamarajar Salai.
A nineteen year-old Santhakumar was killed in accident on the same stretch on Sunday. Another youngster Thiyagu was arrested and remanded for preventing police personnel from discharging their duties when they intercepted them for overspeeding. After drag racing on Marina was on the rise last week, police clamped down on them by erecting check posts at as many as 29 spots and 25 patrol vehicles by law-and-order and traffic police have been pressed into action to look for motorists racing on Kamarajar Salai. Two sub-inspectors and 130 police personnel have also been deployed on Kamarajar Salai and roads leading to the stretch.
