82 kg ganja concealed in truck to Delhi seized
Alerted by a tip off that large quantity of ganja was being smuggled to Delhi, police in neighbouring Kancheepuram intercepted a truck that was carrying 82 kg of the contraband late on Monday night. When they stopped the vehicle near Sunguvarchatram and conducted a thorough search, police found the ganja that was tightly packed and concealed inside a chamber.

Kancheepuram district superintendent of police Santhosh Hadimani received information that ganja was being smuggled through Sriperumbudur in a truck that was coming from Andhra Pradesh. Following this, several teams of police were deployed at various spots to check vehicles. One of the teams stopped a truck that was coming from Visakhapatnam and on its way to collect automobile parts from a private firm in Sipcot. From there, it was to transport the consignment to Delhi.
When they checked the truck, police found the packets of ganja that was hidden inside the driver’s cabin. In all, 82 kgs of ganja was recovered, which led to the arrest of driver and cleaner, Pavan Kumar (32) and Omveer (28) from Haryana. Police said they had been smuggling ganja regularly in the truck. Both of them were remanded in judicial custody and further inquiry is on.
