The accused were identified as Jagan (31), Manoj (33), Sarath (25), Arun (29) and Mani (26). The main accused, Doss, and a few others are yet to be nabbed.

The victim, G Thilagaveni of Kilpauk, who is into real estate business, had bought a house from one Sagayarani in 2012 for Rs 50 lakh. Thilagaveni gave Rs 35 lakh to register the house in her name, and later paid Rs 5 lakh in instalments. But she is yet to pay Rs 10 lakh. On May 22, Sagayarani’s husband Doss kidnapped Thilagaveni in a car and took her to a room in Akkarai. He then assaulted and demanded Rs 10 lakh forthwith. After she was released, Thilagaveni got treatment at Royapettah Government Hospital and lodged a complaint on May 23.
