Father, son among 3 held for load man’s murder

The deceased E Sathish (32) is a resident of Ezhil Nagar and the main accused Vijay (28) is said to be working as a cameraman. The other accused include Vijay’s father Karunanidhi and her relative Sudhakar (35).

The incident happened on Saturday night when Vijay and Sudhakar, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, quarrelled with Sathish and five of his friends who were talking on Ezhil Nagar fifth street. The duo attacked Sathish’s friends, made fun of some women on the streets and allegedly damaged a few autorickshaws parked on the roadside, said police.

Infuriated over this, Sathish went to Vijay’s house later and picked up a quarrel with them. In the melee, Vijay took a knife and stabbed Sathish. He was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), where he died on Sunday without respondingto treatment.

Kannagi Nagar police had initially registered a case and arrested the trio on attempted murder. On Sunday, they altered the case into murder and remanded them in judicial custody.

The police said that it was Karunanidhi who goaded his son Vijay and even handed over a knife to murder Sathish, police said. “They argued that they resorted to the attack to defend themselves from Sathish,” said the inspector.
