The victim, identified as Aravind of Udumalpet, has been critically admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, said the police.

According to them, he joined work at the petrol bunk only a week ago. He repeatedly came to the bunk under the influence of alcohol despite warnings. After he came to work drunk again on Saturday, the bunk owners allegedly sacked him.

Dejected over this, Aravind filled petrol in a can and rushed to the toilet attached to the bunk where he poured the fuel on himself and set afire. As he was engulfed in fire, fellow workers rescued him and rushed him to the KMCH in an ambulance. The North Beach police have registered a case on the incident and further investigation is on.
