    AIADMK-DMK men clash postpones grievance meeting

    A public grievance meeting had to be postponed as the AIADMK and DMK cadre started fighting at the Tambaram taluk office on Wednesday. Several persons, including elderly, who had travelled long distances to give their petitions to the government officials were inconvenienced, said sources.

    The grievance meeting usually would be held at the taluk office for three days in May every year. On Wednesday, the Tambaram Revenue Divisional Officer C Raj Kumar, Tahsildar Bagyalakshmi along with the Tambaram MLA SR Raja started the meeting around10 am.


    When the MLA was addressing the petitioners, a group of AIADMK men, along with the party’s Tambaram town secretary M Koothan, entered the taluk office and started arguing with the RDO saying that they were not invited for the meeting. Meanwhile, the MLA intervened and said that he came to the meeting as he was a public representative. Soon, a quarrel erupted between both party cadre and they started throwing chairs and slippers ateach other.


    Caught in the midst of the ruckus, the people had to run from the place to avoid being hurt. On information, the St Thomas Mount Deputy Commissioner of Police along with a team rushed to the spot and pacified both the sides. Following this, RDO announced that the meeting has been postponed and the dates would be announced later. The public, who came to attend the meeting, were unhappy with both the parties and said they had travelled from far off places.
