The slowdown in the issuance of EC has affected the real estate business in Tirporur, Cheiyur and surrounding areas as prospective buyers are forced to wait till theencumbrance details of the properties they are interested are issued.

Earlier, those who have applied for EC were getting the document in one or two days but now even after 15 days they are not receiving it, sources said.

According to revenue department sources, efforts were made in February 2019 to digitalise every document and the public were made to apply only through online portal. “Since then, nothing has been proper,” said an official.

Karthikeyan, a city-based land owner said, “ I need to sell a plot in Tiruporur urgently for some personal reason. I applied for EC but till now, I did not receive the document even after 15 days.”

The buildings and plots in OMR and ECR would come under the preview of Tiruporur and Cheiyur sub registrar offices and the booming real estate areas keep the registry offices busy all the time.

However, now the delay in the issuance of EC has brought down the number of registrations since the people who are applying for EC to view the complete ownership of the property are not getting their document on time. Some applicants claimed that even the toll-free helpline number is not active and most of the time even if it works, the helpline staff fail to provide proper details.

A senior official in the Sub registrar office at Tiruporur said that the EC service provided by the private IT firm had some problem. “That is the reason for the delay and hopefully, it would be solved soon,” he said. However, attempts to contact theTiruporur sub-registrar turned futile.
