Woman, lover arrested for three-year-old boy’s death
A woman and her lover were held as her three-year-old son died after he fell from the staircase when she kicked him three days ago in Ambattur. Though she claimed it to be an accident, her sister grew suspicious and tipped off the police.
Chennai
Bhuvaneshwari (20), separated from her husband Somasundaram (35) of Erode in January. She then moved to Chennai along with her child, Kishore (3), to live with her lover Karthikeyan (33).
On Sunday, Bhuvaneshwari informed her mother-in-law over phone that Kishore died after he slipped from the staircase. She took the child’s body to her sister in Pattukkottai to perform the last rites. Her sister, who suspected foul play, alerted the Pattukkottai police, who then alerted Assistant Commissioner Kannan of Ambattur range.
A police team rushed to Pattukkottai and brought Kishore’s body to Chennai. As the autopsy report revealed that Kishore died of blood clot with his ribs broken, the police grilled Bhuvaneshwari and Karthikeyan. During the investigation, Bhuvaneshwari reportedly admitted to beating Kishore, as he was not listening to her. As Bhuvaneshwari’s neighbours also told police that they have seen the child being beaten up often, her mother-in-law Sudha lodged a complaint against the couple. They will be remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
The police said that Bhuvaneshwari separated from Somasundaram after the latter came to know about her affair with Karthikeyan. Following this, she took custody of Kishore and moved to Chennai. They added that Bhuvaneshwari’s intention was not to murder her son but he died of injuries when she kicked her in his chest as he continued to play on the road without listening to her.
