Shah’s plea for return of passport rejected
The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed city-based businessman Ranvir Shah’s plea seeking return of his passport.
Chennai
The Idol Wing had seized Chola-era idols from his house following which he surrendered his passport to obtain anticipatory bail.
Ranvir Shah had sought the court to direct the Idol Wing to return his passport as his mother residing abroad was unwell and hence had to visit her immediately.
However, the Idol Wing strongly opposed the return of passport taking into account the 100 stone idols and artefacts dating back to the Chola era being seized from Shah’s 100-acre farmhouse at a village near Melmaruvathur. Based on this, Justice Bhavani Subbarayan rejected Shah’s plea for return of passport.
