Youth held for stealing earring from dead body

Police said that Aravind (19), who was dancing in front of a funeral procession of an elderly woman in Ezhil Nagar, Kodungaiyur, noticed a one sovereign earring on the deceased’s ear. On the pretext of carrying the dead body, he stole the earring.

Though a few people who were walking in the procession chased him, Aravind managed to escape. After burying the body, the relatives of the woman lodged a complaint with the Kodungaiyur police.

With the help of the identity given by the locals, police arrested Aravind of B-block, Ezhil Nagar. It was revealed that Aravind is a repeated offender, who allegedly picked pockets at a wedding function at Tiruvottiyur and stole a ring while attending a birthday function. He was remanded in judicial custody and the earring has been seized.
