Video of oil pilferage in North Chennai goes viral
Police have launched an investigation after an undated video of a gang stealing fuel from an oil tanker in North Chennai came to public attention. The video was taken when the fuel was being stolen from a tanker parked on a street in Tondiarpet.

The video shows a group of men extracting fuel from a parked tanker, which has ‘Hindustan Petroleum’ written on it, and filling it in cans.
Police said it looked like the fuel was being stolen from a tanker which transports fuel from oil terminals in North Chennai.
Industry sources alleged that drivers often stop the oil tankers on the roadside to help such gangs thieve the fuel.
Though the oil company officials are reportedly aware of the pilferage and dealers have been asking the authorities to take steps to prevent oil pilferage but no official complaints have been filed.
Officials have already passed information about the video to Civil Supplies CID wing. If the oil company manages to trace the truck involved in the video, the driver and the tanker owner can get black-listed.
If the loss of petrol is detected, The amount would be deducted from the driver’s wage, sources added.
