Temperature drops for 1st time in a week even as heatwave persists
The summer sizzle continues in the State with Vellore and Tiruttani recording close to 43 degrees Celsius.

The outskirts of Chennai, including Avadi, Poonamallee and Chembarabakkam, also witnessed a rise in temperatures, while the city saw a drop for the first time this week with the maximum temperature at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recording 37.5 degrees Celsius and 40.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy in the city for the next 48 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius respectively. However, several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Nilgiris, Krishnagiri and Cuddalore, received light to moderate rainfall.
A few parts of Tamil Nadu recorded high temperatures with Tiruttani recording a highest of 43.5 degrees while Vellore recorded 43.0 degrees. Karur, Palayamkottai and Salem also crossed 40 degrees.
Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that Nilgiris, Valparai, Kodaikanal, Theni, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli are expected to receive rains and heat wave shall prevail only in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Vellore and Virudhunagar.
