Juvenile among 2 held for phone snatching

The Police said that Jayakumar (39) of Mannadi, an autorickshaw driver, had stopped his vehicle in Koyambedu on Sunday morning and was watching a movie on his phone when a bike-borne duo snatched his phone and sped away.

Jayakumar chased and managed to nab the pillion rider. A police patrol team that was in the locality reached the spot and caught the rider, and the two were taken to the police station. One of them was identified as Babu (26), while the other was a 17-year-old boy. The two have been arrested. Babu was remanded in custody, while the juvenile was sent to the Government Observation Home.

Police nabbed a gang of men who used to escape with pedestrians’ mobile phones after collecting it in the guise of making an emergency call. They have been identified as Jeyaraj alias Rajan (24) of Flower Bazaar, James Joshua (20) of Puzhal, Ajithkumar (19) of Purasaiwalkam, Kumaraguru (21) of Perambur and Dinesh Kumar (19) of Triplicane. Police said that they have many snatching cases pending at Fort, Triplicane, Periamet, Vepery, Neelankarai, Seven Wells, Mylapore and Mambalam stations. A special team was formed after receiving several complaints in Abiramapuram, which identified them with the help of CCTV footage. Two bikes were seized, and the men were remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested by the police on charges of assaulting a man and robbing him of Rs 500. According to police, Vigneshwaran (23) was returning home after work when two persons intercepted him near Puzhal. They assaulted him and sped away with Rs 500. Based on his complaint, Raj Kumar and Subash were arrested.
