    Mentally challenged boy run over by EMU

    A nine-year-old mentally challenged boy was knocked down by an electric multiple unit (EMU) train as his mother went away to attend a phone call at Mambalam railway station on Sunday.

    The deceased, Aditya Arungopal (9) of Madambakkam, had come to T Nagar for shopping along with his mother and grandmother. They returned to the railway station from Pondy Bazaar and were waiting for the train to reach Tambaram around noon.


    When Aditya’s mother got a phone call and moved away from him, Aditya, who was wandering on the platform, went to the edge after hearing the sound of a train. As he leaned to see the train, a Chengalpattu-bound train hit him, killing on the spot.


    The Railway police sent his body to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case of accidental death has been registered and furtherinvestigation is on.


    Boy killed in road mishap Meanwhile, a 12-year-old boy was killed after the two-wheeler in which he was travelling rammed a stationary lorry in Puzhal on Saturday night. The boy had gone to spend his summer vacation at his uncle’s house in Puzhal when the incident took place, said the police.


    The deceased was identified as Karthik, son of Ilayaraja, a resident of Aminjikarai. Around 11.30 pm on Saturday, Karthik was riding pillion on a bike that was ridden by his uncle Karikol Raja (27).


    When they were near Padiyanallur on GNT Road, Raja rammed a stationery lorry from behind. While Raja escaped with an injury on his hands, Karthik suffered injuries on his face and head, resulting in his death. The lorry had been parked in a no-parking zone as the driver had gone to buy dinner. The Puzhal police have summoned the lorry driver.
