This is the second time that the officer is threatening to leave the force publicly, frustrated over the same issue. He had said that he would quit his job in January 2016. He was then attached to the Chintadripet police station. Jawahar had also mentioned that he would return his medal and the piece of land given to honour his bravery if his further elevation was stalled.

Jawahar on Thursday reiterated that he was ready to surrender his medal before the government if his grievance over the promotion was not immediately addressed. However, the official stand is that accelerated promotees have to wait till all his or her batchmates catch up with him in seniority and the next elevation would be given along with them.

‘I am planning to surrender my promotion as inspector of police and award given by former CM of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa for the encounter of Veerappan before the present CM of Tamil Nadu and then quit my job because my good service is insulted by a few officers in the government, who misled two home secretaries and chief ministers of Tamil Nadu in my promotion issue before the court and denied it for six years,” he said in the tweet on Thursday.

“Promotion was denied for eight inspectors and we challenged it in the court. Now, the case is in Supreme Court which has recommended the government to consider our petition. The government is not ready to consider,” he said. He was part of the Special Task Force that eliminated Veerapan and was given accelerated promotion from sub-inspector to inspector of police in 2004.
