Woman IPS officer chases, seizes car with obscene number plate
After hunting for a luxury car roaming in the city with an obscene term on the number plate ever since DT Next reported it nearly four months ago in December, the vehicle was seized by the Deputy Commissioner of Madhavaram after a dramatic chase for more than eight kilometres, on Monday morning.
Chennai
Deputy Commissioner G Ravali Priya was on her way to office on Monday morning when she noticed the car at Retteri junction. The car sported a sticker on the rear number plate that read ‘SICK**NT’ instead of the number, which immediately caught her attention.
“As a woman, I found the number plate extremely offensive and I immediately clicked a photo and sent it to another officer. As I was told that they have been looking for the vehicle for about four months, I chased the vehicle,” she told DT Next.
Realising that he was being followed, the driver began speeding. Thus began the hot pursuit that went on for about 8.5 kilometres, during which it jumped three signals. Finally, the car was brought to a halt near Madhavaram Milk Colony.
The person behind the wheel was identified as Bradford Errol (22), son of a businessman from Third Cross Road in KKR Garden at Madhavaram. During interrogation, the police officers found that he was drunk and did not have valid documents for the vehicle. The original registration number is TN 22 AV 9339, the police found out.
“He claimed that he had bought the car two years ago. But the documents are still in the name of the previous owner as he is yet to settle the entire amount,” said traffic inspector Vijayakumar. After the car was thoroughly checked, the youth was booked for using defective number plate, tinted glass panels, drunk and negligent driving. “The vehicle was seized to be produced before the magistrate, who will decide on the punishment,” the inspector said, adding that the car is registered in the name of one Kathirvel and the vehicle has not been insured since 2015.
