Two parked cars go up in flames in T Nagar
Two cars that were parked on the side of the busy G N Chetty Road were gutted in a fire on Monday.
Chennai
A Hyundai i10 car belonging to Ramesh of Canara Bank Colony malfunctioned while proceeding towards Anna Salai on Sunday night. Police said that the petrol car was refilled with diesel, which led to the glitch. Ramesh parked the car and returned with a mechanic from Royapettah on Monday morning.Â
When the mechanic was trying to fix the problem, the car suddenly caught fire. Before they could douse the fire, it spread to another car, a Maruti S Cross, that was parked nearby. The owner of the Maruti car Madhavan, who works at a private bank on the opposite side of the road, had parked the vehicle before going to his office for some work. When he returned a little while later, he found his car also up in flames.
These two vehicles were gutted in the fire. But TNFRS personnel from T Nagar and Teynampet rushed to the spot and put it out in 30 minutes before the fire spread to other cars.Â
Teynampet police have registered a case and further inquiry is on. Â
In another incident, a car went up in flames on GST road on Monday.Â
