    Rain expected in districts, city to remain hot

    According to a Regional Meteorological Centre forecast, seven districts received light to moderate rainfall on Thursday. While Kanyakumari and the Nilgiris received 4 cm, Ramanathapuram received 3 cm rain. Toothukudi, Dindigul, Krishnagiri and Coimbatore also received rainfall.

    Tirunelveli, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai and Ramanthapuram are expected to receive rainfall in the coming week, said an RMC official. Salem, Tirunelveli, Dharmapuri, Tirupur, Erode, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni, the Nilgiris, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Trichy and Perambalur are also expected to receive rainfall within two weeks. Isolated parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to witness thunderstorm with gusty winds and lightning. However, temperatures are likely to remain high in the city -- ranging between 36 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius.


    On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius and Meenambakkam recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius temperature. Tiruttani recorded a highest of 40.8 degrees Celsius, while Karur, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Salem recorded 40.6 degrees Celsius, 40.4 degrees Celsius, 40.1 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius respectively.
