The DVAC team arrested Vincent from his office after the president of Ryan Recreation Club in Ashok Nagar, K Senthil Kumar, lodged a complaint.

The club had signed an agreement with Swani Health and Day Spa to run the facility on the club premises and also had obtained required permission from the government.

However, the ACP sent a Sub-Inspector and other men to meet Senthil Kumar on April 3 and demand him to close down the spa. They threatened him that everyone linked to the spa will be arrested if they continue to run the facility. “When I told them that I have not committed any crime, I was asked to go and meet the ACP at his office in Ashok Nagar,” Senthil Kumar said in his complaint.

On the same day, Ryan went and met Vincent Jayaraj at his office. That is when the AC asked a bribe of Rs 50,000 every month. “He said he would allow us to run the spa if we give him the mamool. When I informed him that we are not in a position to pay so much every month, he threatened to arrest us,” Senthil Kumar added in his complaint.

He, after discussing the matter with the other officer bearers, decided to lodge the DVAC complaint. The DVAC team trapped Vincent Jayaraj when he was accepting the money and arrested him.

SI suspended for ganja peddling dismissed
A Special Sub-Inspector who was arrested in 2017 for hoarding 22kg of ganja was dismissed from service on Tuesday after the departmental inquiry was completed.
Commissioner of Police A K Viswanathan issued the order terminating Sundaravadivelu (54), from service. The charge against him was that he hid 22kg ganja, which seized during a vehicle check, in his house 2017. He was then attached to the Fort police station.
On May 17, 2017, the city police arrested him after the contraband was seized from his official residence in Royapuram police quarters. A local informer had tipped the police about the seizure but Sundaravadivelu failed to report and record it.
Surandavadivelu, who was on night duty, seized the ganja from a peddler in Annai Sathya Nagar. He is believed to have used his official vehicle to transport the ganja to his quarters. He was allegedly planning to sell it to make quick money.
After an internal inquiry, he was arrested for illegal possession of ganja and was jailed for eight months before rejoining the force in 2018, even as the inquiry was underway. Once the inquiry was completed, based on the report, the city police chief dismissed him on Tuesday.
