Two-hour unscheduled halt at Tambaram irks EMU passengers
A large number of EMU passengers travelling towards Chengalpattu were stranded at Tambaram railway station for two hours on Wednesday night because of unannounced halt due to railway track repair works.
Chennai
The Beach-Tirumalpur EMU reached platform number four of Tambaram railway station at 9.05 pm on Wednesday. Usually the train would depart within few minutes, but on Wednesday, it was halted in the platform for long time. Commuters said there were no announcements regarding the delay in departure. The commuters who were seated inside the train stepped out and began to quarrel with the loco pilot.
Meanwhile, at 9.45 pm the Beach-Chengalpet EMU also reached the fourth platform of the station and halted without any information. The angry commuters gathered in front of the stationmaster’s room. When they enquired, there was allegedly no response from the officials. The commuters claimed that the stationmaster said that the train would depart any time but added that he cannot tell the specific time.
According to the commuters, if the authorities made an announcement regarding the time and expected delay, they would have opted for other modes of transport from Tambaram. Finally, it was only at 10.20 pm that the announcements were made stating that the trains would be delayed for few more minutes.
Officials said a damage on the railway track at the second and fourth platform caused the delay. Later, at around 10.50 pm, it was rectified and the trains departed one after another after 11 pm.
