Cracker blast kills stray dog in Kanchi
A stray dog died after it bit a cracker which was placed to chase away wild pigs in a village in Kancheepuram on Monday night.
Chennai
The cracker exploded when the dog was digging through a garbage heap. The animal suffered severe injuries to the head and died on the spot.
Based on an alert from the residents of Potheri village around 9 pm, the police rushed to the scene. However, the police team could not trace any explosives at night, but collected some slivers on Tuesday morning and had sent the same to a forensic lab. After initial inquiry, the police on Tuesday found that the cracker was used to chase away wild animals from attacking the fields. Some of the villagers had kept the cracker to chase the wild pigs from damaging the agricultural field.
It looks like the villagers had left the crackers near the pile of garbage and the dog could have bit the cracker by accident, triggering the blast” a police officer said.
