Five reasons why ‘friend zone’ is better than a toxic relationship

Relationship experts say that it is common for individuals to develop feelings for their friends. While this is completely normal, many youngsters don’t want to be ‘friend zoned’ or treated like a just friend after developing romantic feelings.

However, remaining friends with the person you like rather than entering into a relationship is more beneficial, say these experts. Here are some reasons why friend zone is better than getting into a relationship that may turn toxic:

    Comfort and openness

When two people are friends, they can share everything without having the fear of being judged. They can be open about their problems. Even if the friend touches or hugs you, you won’t feel uncomfortable. Being friends will help feel secure and free. One will realise the importance of the other person without taking advantage of him/her.

    Forgiving and forgetting

Every small argument with a lover spoils the mood and breaks heart. However, with friends it’s not the same. Forgiving and letting things go gets easier and better. Friends may fight and argue but get over it easily. The expectations are much lesser in friendships as compared to romantic relationships.

    Personal space

Friend zone helps to have one’s own space and time. You no longer have to wait for calls and texts but focus on yourself as an individual and not get lost in love. You get to decide for yourself and schedule your day according to your priorities and meet other friends without having to worry or be paranoid about what your partner might feel.

    Carefree attitude

If you’re in a friendly relationship with a person, you don’t have to worry about being self-conscious. When in a romantic relationship, people tend to over-analyse every situation. They begin to get too conscious about the way they look, talk, sit and eat, let alone doing more private things such as burping or sneezing. In friendship, a person can let their hair down and relax without worrying too much about repercussions of their actions.

    Learning and preparing

When you’re close to someone who is your friend and you secretly like them, it helps you learn and know what qualities you would want in your future partner. It will allow you to discover how people are because what you see isn’t always what you get.
