Corporation’s election webpage serves no purpose

“I was trying to find my polling booth and visited the webpage a few days ago. Even though there is a ‘polling locations’ tab, it remains dysfunctional. It seems the webpage was created only for a namesake purpose,” M Mohan, a voter, said. As on Saturday evening, more than 10,500 people visited the webpage, which can be accessed by visiting the corporation’sofficial website.

Apart from ‘polling locations’, other tabs which have been created to provide contacts details of polling officials, details of flying squad and booth level officials are not open as well. Presently, the webpage has photographs of various voters’ awareness events conducted by the civic body. The only functional tab is ‘TN election site’, which takes users to the official website of Tamil Nadu election department. When contacted, a corporation official said that the polling locations and other details would be uploaded to the webpage in a few days’ time. “We have a control room to receive election-related complaints from the public. They can also use ‘cVIGIL’, a smartphone application, to register their complaints,” he added.

Meanwhile, the corporation officials have started to use the ‘Garuda EVT’ application to track the movement of the flying squad teams. “The application is being used for the first time and we have started to use the application for the last one week. We can track the exact location and time of seizure effected by the flying squad teams using the application,” the official said.
