Man held for assaulting wife slits throat in police station
A 44-year-old man, who was taken to the police station after he beat his wife, attempted suicide by slitting his throat at the Koyambedu police station on Tuesday night.

Govindaraj (44) of Perumal Koil Street in Nerkundram runs a roadside eatery near Koyambedu market. He allegedly attacked his wife Kavitha (32) over a family dispute on March 30. Hearing her cries, neighbours rescued her andhanded him over to the Koyambedu police.
After inquiring him, the police were preparing to produce him before the magistrate on Tuesday evening when Govindharaj told police personnel he had to attend nature’s call and went to the toilet. However, he slit his throat with a knife he had hid there, said the police. The police personnel rushed him to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. He will be remanded after being discharged from the hospital, said sources.Â
Murder accused attempts suicide in Puzhal prison
Arunkumar (24), who was arrested for murdering his wife three months after marriage in KK Nagar, attempted suicidein the Central Prison in Puzhal on Tuesday.Â
The police said thatArunkumar used the aluminium plate, in which food is usually given to inmates at theprison, to slit his throat and hands. After fellow inmates alerted the prison authorities, he was taken to the Stanley Medical College Hospital for treatment. He is said to be out of danger. The Puzhal police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.Â
Arunkumar stabbed hiswife Sandhya to death in front of the latter’s mother in Nesapakkam on March 30 overfamily dispute. Sandhyadied on the spot and the KK Nagar police arrested Arunkumarand remanded him in judicial custody.
