The accused Arunkumar of Tindivanam was working as an electrician in the city. He developed a relationship with Sandhya (20), his neighbour, four years ago. After they eloped three months ago, their parents accepted their relationship and solemnised their wedding.

The couple was residing at a rented house in Nesapakkam a few streets away from where Sandhya’s parents were staying. The police said that the couple fought often. “Arunkumar suspected Sandhya of infidelity, which led to frequent quarrels between them. In return, Sandhya is said to have humiliated him for not being able earn enough to run the family as well as to settle the marriage loans,” said the police.

Two days ago, a quarrel erupted between them and Arunkumar beat Sandhya. The house owner informed Sandhya’s mother Saritha about the incident. Following this, she took her daughter home.

Infuriated over this, Arunkumar went to Saritha’s house around 11 am on Saturday with a knife. When Sandhya refused to come back to their house with him, Arunkumar stabbed Sandhya in her abdomen and neck, killing her on the spot. Saritha, who tried to intervene, also sustained injuries.

On information, the KK Nagar police rushed to the spot and arrested Arunkumar. A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC. Police said that he would be remanded on Sunday after due procedure.
