Man, airport employee arrested for job racket

The accused were identified as Karthick (34) from Avadi and Surendra Babu (59), an employee at the office of AAI, Southern region. The victim, Sakthi Kannan (23) from Thittakudi village in Cuddalore was searching for a job after completing a diploma course. He applied for a job at the IT department of AAI on a website three months ago. He then received a reply asking him to send his resume.

Some days later, Kannan got another mail informing him that he was selected for the job and was asked to pay Rs 15,000 for online registration. Then, he was asked to pay Rs 25,000 as service charge, Rs 15,000 for medical check-up and Rs 30,000 as deposit amount in subsequent days.

While the website stopped working, Kannan received a call asking him to come to Chennai to receive the offer letter along with Rs 25,000 on Monday. Sakthi Kannan reached Chennai airport around 10 am and Karthick asked him to wait in the parking area. While Karthick did not arrive till afternoon, Kannan grew suspicious and approached the airport police station.

The police informed him that he has been cheated and asked him to wait in the parking area till the caller arrived there. Around 7 pm, Karthick arrived and collected money from Sakthi Kannan and showed him the offer letter. Karthick also told him that the head of the department has to the sign the letter and asked him to collect it in a few days.

The police who were waiting there surrounded Karthick and when checked his bag, they found him having several letter pads of AAI along with rubber stamps. During inquiry, they found the involvement of Surendra Babu and arrested him too. The two had cheated more than 30 people in a similar manner, police added.
