The victim, Krishnaraj (24) of Seyyur in Kancheepuram district, was rescued from the gang within an hour and Kavitha (38), Shankar Kumar (28) and Hari Krishnan (25) of Tiruvottiyur were remanded in judicial custody.
The incident happened on Saturday evening when Kavitha invited Krishnaraj to discuss her daughter’s wedding with him. The police said that Krishnaraj and Kavitha’s daughter were in a relationship when they were working together in a firm in Tambaram.
While Krishnaraj recently separated from her citing her alleged relationship with another person, the girl is said to have been insisting on marrying him. “Currently, both of them are not employed in the firm. But the girl allegedly continued to harass him,” the police said.
The girl reportedly informed Kavitha, a widow, about Krishnaraj and she invited him to Vadivudai Amman temple in Tivuvottiyur to discuss it. When Krishnaraj reached the spot with his friend Vasantha Kumar from Seyyur, Kavitha and four other men asked him to board a car to talk in private and sped away.
Vasantha Kumar immediately alerted the police and a team chased and secured the gang near Basin Bridge. While three of them, including Kavitha were arrested, a hunt has been launched for an absconding accused identified as Saravanan.
The police said that Shankar Kumar is an LLB graduate and Hari Krishnan is pursuing law in Andhra Pradesh. After a preliminary investigation, the police said that they kidnapped Krishnaraj to threaten him and convince him to marry Kavitha’s daughter.
