One more small party joins hands with Makkal Needhi Maiam
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam on Saturday entered into an alliance with yet another smaller party – Valarum Thamilagam – for the Lok Sabha polls and the by-elections to the 18 Assembly constituencies in the state.

As per the seat sharing arrangement, Valarum Thamilagam will contest two Assembly seats while extending support to the MNM in other seats. Republican Party of India also joined the alliance with MNM and would be contesting in one Lok Sabha seat and three Assembly constituencies. Both the allies would be contesting in the MNM’s election symbol ‘Battery Torch.’
A statement issued by MNM said that wanting to work towards a better Tamil Nadu and inspired by the ideologies of MNM, P Duraiarasan, president of Valarum Thamilagam proposed an alliance with the party.
It said that Kamal accepted the proposal and has decided to allot two Assembly seats for Valarum Thamilagam. MNM, which has announced candidates for the 21 Lok Sabha seats, would be declaring candidates for the rest of the LS seats and the 18 Assembly bypoll seats on Sunday in the party’s Coimbatore rally.
