Love stories to get a musical twist
Deciding whether falling in love is more difficult or letting it go would have haunted many of us.
Chennai
“The real difficulty lies is neither, but sustaining love and relationships,” quips Sriram of Nalandaway Foundation, making it quite evident he’s seen, heard and experienced his fair share of love stories.
Keeping this in mind, he wanted to modify the format in which such tales are narrated, thus, he curated an event called ‘Love Stories Woven with Music’, which is set to happen on April 6.
The 95-minute-long programme will comprise stories that he has written and will include songs that will be performed by Aruvi music director Vedanth Bharadwaj. “The mood of the evening will be such that it shines light upon relationships and will help people understand the vulnerable contexts and myths behind falling in love, the need to let go and process of redemption,” explains Sriram. He adds, “It is a story-telling presentation but won’t be a mono act — we have interspersed songs that are appropriate for the situation, composed by John Legend, John Denver, Amir Khusrow poems, Bharathiyar verses, Bob Dylan and so on.”
When asked why he felt it was important to conceptualise this event, he replies, “I have been writing for a while and one of my thoughts was to spin a performance out of story-telling. So, two of my works will be read out and though fictional, they have been inspired by real life incidents or people.” He says that when he met with Vedanth to explain about the concept, the latter agreed wholeheartedly. “He’s a dear friend of mine and helps me with the Chennai Children’s Choir too. When I told him I was looking at a different kind of performance, which is in the long format, he was on board,” says Sriram.
Love Stories Woven with Music will take place at CurioPlay, #3, Ananda Road, Alwarpet, at 7 pm
