The victim, V Ponnulingam (32), a native of Tirunelveli, was posted as a constable at the Royala Nagar police station.

In the letter, he said that his mother was suffering from serious illness for the past one month. He asked for leave to take care of her, but the inspector denied.

His mother passed away a few days ago and on Thursday, her final rights were conducted. The inspector refused the grant leave even for that. When a transfer order arrived, he did not provide relieving order. “If action is not taken against the inspector, I will kill myself,” he said in the letter.

On Thursday, after he was seen writing the ‘suicide note’ sitting in the police station, Ponnulingam was sent home, said the police officer who added he will be soon posted in a police station in Tirunelveli.
