Red sanders logs stolen from govt godown
Red sanders logs weighing over a tonne and worth Rs 45 lakh were stolen from a Central government yard on Sunday.

According to sources, it was a part of 40-tonne consignment that was seized in 2017 by Customs officers in Madhavaram. The seized logs were kept in the yard that belongs to the Central government in Madhavaram along with the lorry in which it was being transported.
On Sunday, the yard manager noticed that the seal of the container had been tampered with and red sanders logs weighing over a tonne were missing. Based on a complaint, the Madhavaram police registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
Inspector Suresh Kumar told DT Next that they were investigating if the logs were stolen over a period or overnight using a lorry. As there are no CCTV cameras in the locality, the police are finding it difficult to crack the case, said sources.
Two arrested for smugglingsand in Pallavaram
The police arrested two men, when they were smuggling sand from a lake near Pallavaram on Sunday night. The arrested persons were identified as Saravanan (27), a lorry driver and Vignesh (31), a JCB operator.
The residents of Tiruneermalai noticed that some men are mining sand from the lake in Tiruneermalai, especially during weekends. On Sunday night, the residents noticed that two of them loading sand in a lorry using an earth mover.
They immediately informed the Shankar Nagar police station after which a police team rushed to the spot and arrested them. The police officers also seized the vehicles used for sand mining and further inquiry is on.
