Wagah-bound Abhi’s parents head to Delhi
Parents of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was captured by Pakistan army on Wednesday after his aircraft was attacked by ground forces, left for New Delhi from their residence in Madambakkam on Thursday night.

According to airport sources, Retd. Air Marshal S Varthaman and his wife Shobha flew to Delhi in an Indigo airlines flight at 10.35 pm. The Wing Commander is expected to be handed over to the Indian Army at Wagah border on Friday. Around 8.15 pm, Air Marshal Varthaman along with his wife started from their residence to the Airport. Hundreds of local residents and media personnel thronged the gated community on Thursday after news broke that the wing commander would be released. When asked for a reaction, Air Marshall Varthaman responded with a military salute and proceeded to the airport.
Earlier in the day, his father had released a statement thanking everyone for the good wishes. The veteran Air Marshal said he was proud of his son. “Thank you my friends for your concern and wishes. I thank God for his blessings, Abhi is alive, not injured, sound in mind, just look at the way he talked so bravely...a true soldier...we are so proud of him. “I am sure all your hands n blessings are on his head, prayers for his safe return. We draw our strengths from your support and energy,” he said.
