The police said that the accused S Vimalbabu of Rajaji Nagar in Tiruvottiyur is a history-sheeter. He has cases pending against him in four police stations and has been arrested on theft charges before. Eight mobile phones, three laptops and a tab, including the ones he stole at the hospital premises, were recovered from him.
The police said that Vimal wore blue colour shirt like other ward boys and stole valuables of post graduate students in the hospital premises. He was identified with the help of the CCTV footage recovered from the hospital. The video showed him casually walking away with a backpack. Later, the owner of the bag received a call from the Sulurpet railway station police informing him that the bag was found abandoned there. While the bag had all the study materials, laptop was missing.
