He was identified as P Subramanian of Tondiarpet. The laptop belonged to Jambunathan (49), a businessman from Adyar, who returned from Hyderabad by flight around 6.30pm on Friday. Jambunathan had boarded a taxi from the airport and went to his house in Adyar. It was only on Saturday morning that he noticed that his laptop bag was missing. He remembered that he had missed it while boarding the cab.

Soon, he reached Chennai airport and enquired with the security personnel, who said no such bag was found. Jambunathan then filed a complaint with the Airport police station. After getting permission from the Airports Authority of India, the local police browsed the CCTV footage at arrival terminals.

They found Jambunathan had left the laptop bag while boarding the cab. About 30 minutes later, another cab driver who noticed the bag was seen opening it. After seeing that it was a laptop, he took it with him. Police managed to note the car registration number from the CCTV footage.

On Sunday morning, police went to Tondiarpet and arrested Subramanian. Police said he had given the laptop to his friend to sell it. It was recovered, police said, adding that the airport police have registered a case.
