Missing Thanjai girl spotted at Chromepet
Four days after a 17-year-old girl from Thanjavur reportedly went missing, her family has reached Chennai in search of her. After receiving messages from her mobile phone that she was kidnapped to harvest her heart for transplant, they lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of St Thomas Mount police district on Tuesday.

According to her relatives, the girl from Pandanallur village, who is pursing first-year of a degree course in a women’s college in Kumbakonam, did not return home on February 16 (Saturday). The kin said that their repeated calls to her phone went unanswered.
Later, there were only messages sent from her phone claiming that she has been kidnapped and will be murdered ‘to take her heart for transplantation’. There was another message demanding Rs 30 lakh for her release.
Family members who were panicked lodged a complaint at the local police station. But there was allegedly no response from the police there, following which they began searching for the girl on their own.
After neighbours told the family members that the girl was last seen with a man leaving in a government bus, they got in touch the bus crew and learnt that she got down at Chromepet in Chennai.
With this information, the family approached the city police commissionerate and was directed to lodge a complaint at St Thomas Mount Deputy Commissioner.
“Her phone remains switched off for the last two days, so police could not make a headway about her whereabouts. Had the local police taken a swift action on the complaint, she could have been traced.
We are not sure whether she was kidnapped or went with her consent. We just want to ensure that she is safe and not in danger,” said one of her family members.
