Two mother-son teams snatch, loot, 3 nabbed
Two mother-son duos indulged in burglary and chain-snatching in two separate incidents in Peravallur and the police have arrested two women and a man in connection with the cases.

A Thangavel (63), a retired joint director of labour department and resident of Kandhasamy Salai in Periyar Nagar at Peravallur, went out on February 10 and returned home in the evening. He found his house burgled and 50 sovereigns missing.
Based on his complaint, the Peravallur police registered a case and went through the CCTV footage from the locality. They found out that a woman and a man broke open the house and escaped with jewels.
A hunt was launched for them and V Sundari (49) of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar was secured. Investigation revealed that Sundari and her son Dinakaran burgled the house as they were unable repay the mounting debt. The police have launched a hunt for Dinakaran.
Similarly, another mother-son duo was held for snatching five sovereigns from a pedestrian. R Roopa (48) of Shanthi Nagar Extension in Kolathur was relieved of her gold chain by an unidentified duo when she was going for a walk, near SRB Colony on January 23. Based on her complaint, the Peravallur police investigated and found that a woman pillion rider snatched her chain. A hunt was launched for the duo and M Mariammal (55) of Old Washermanpet and her son Manikandan (22) were secured. The stolen jewel and the two-wheeler used for snatching were seized from them. Both were remanded in judicial custody.
