While some singles believe that Valentine’s Day is simply a marketing gimmick, a survey has revealed that an overwhelming 86 per cent of them look forward to celebrating it post marriage.

Conducted by Bharat Matrimony among 6,809 singles —of which 4,471 were men and 2,338 women — the survey further illustrated the fact that they believed this would “strengthen marriage bonds” and could simply be a “special day to celebrate love.”

Annapoorani Easwarasamy, 59, who has been married for more than 30 years, said, “I have always been the expressive one in our relationship, so I make the move to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my husband. We simply go for a walk on Besant Nagar beach and have breakfast outside. Small rituals are important in sustaining any kind of relationship.”

Akash Jain’s wife is working on a social project in Ethiopia. “We always  watch a movie and have home cooked meal on Valentine’s Day. This time, since we’re separated by distance we are planning to watch the same movie at the same time on different screens, and cook the same dish and have it!” The couple have been together for 10 years now, and are often separated by distance as they travel a lot. “It’s silly, but it makes us feel like we’re together. The time difference is sometimes a problem, so we plan the movie day in advance so we are free to spend some quality time together,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kainat Abdullah, 29, who has been married for three years now, is just looking for a reason to celebrate love. “I met 47 people through various marriage sites before I found the right one! So I consider my marriage a personal victory and I’m happy to celebrate it on Valentine’s Day. This time, as it falls on a weekday, we are planning a trip to Pondy over the weekend.”
