Six sculptures conveying the importance of wearing seat belts while driving cars, helmets while riding two-wheelers and dangers of over-speeding were made by professor A Vasanthan and his students from ICAT Design and Media College in Santhome.

The sculptures were designed on the spot on Saturday and were ready for public display by evening. The sculpture which depicted a car accident with blood oozing from a man lying on a car bonnet, an infant inside a helmet to depict its importance and a tortoise as helmet to show how safe it is to wear a helmet were attractions for people visiting the beach.

Apart from the sculptures, there were also mime performances with special characters such as Spiderman to convey a road safety message. Speaking to DT Next, P Saminathan, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic, South) said that it was the idea of Additional Commissioner (Traffic) A Arun to organise the sand sculpture show as he thought it would reach people of all ages.

Pamphlets and guides on road safety were also distributed to visitors on Saturday by the officials.
