A 45-year-old man, who was walking along the busy Tiruvottiyur High Road in Tondiarpet around noon on Sunday, was murdered in broad daylight by a three- member gang. Police suspect the attack was due to previous enmity, as a complaint he had filed a few months ago had led to the arrest of a group of miscreants.

Police identified the victim as G Ravi (45) a resident of Seniamman koil street in Tondiarpet. Around 12.15 on Sunday, he was walking near the St John’s Church when three persons surrounded him. Even as other people were passing by, the gang members hacked him to death.

Ravi and his uncle Vadivelu have been running a biryani shop on Tiruvottiyur High Road for the past one year. According to police sources, they were continuously facing trouble from one Viji. Three months ago, Viji’s gang attacked Vadivelu. Following this, police registered a case and arrested the gang members, who were subsequently sent to prison.

As the attack came close on the heels of Viji being released from the prison, the police suspect he could have orchestrated the attack that resulted in the murder. Hence, though they are yet to ascertain the reason for the murder, the police said they were hunting for Viji, and two others – Mani and Ramu. Special teams have been formed to nab them, Tondiarpet police said.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man is struggling for life after being attacked with sharp weapons, near Ayanavaram on Saturday night. Police suspect the attack could be a fallout over an affair.

Passers-by found Sasikumar (40), a painter residing at M S Nagar, Chetpet, lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

After finishing work, he consumed alcohol at a TASMAC shop and was near the Gangai Amman temple bus stop on New Avadi Road in Ayanavaram, when three men on motorbike attacked him at around 11.30 pm.

As initial probe revealed that Sasikumar had divorced his wife to live another woman, police suspect that the attackers could be related to his ex-wife.
