Drunk duo kills lorry driver, held

The deceased, M Guru of Vellivayal village, is survived by his wife and two children. The two men were identified as R Ajith (25) alias Appan and B Ajith (23), both hailing from Vichoor. Both are history-sheeters, the police said. The incident took place around 5.30 pm near the victim’s house. 

Infuriated after Guru asked them not to consume liquor in open at the residential colony, the duo slapped and pushed him down. Guru, who fell on the ground, suffered grievous injuries on his head. Hearing his cries, neighbours rushed to his rescue and took him to a nearby hospital while the attackers fled the spot. However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival. 

Based on a complaint, the Manali New Town police registered a case and secured the suspects within a few hours after the incident. Both of them were produced in a court and then remanded in judicial custody. Inspector Govindaraju said that the murder was a fallout of sudden provocation and that there was no previous enmity between them. Further investigation is on.
