Class 8 student dies after bus runs over her near Pallavaram
A 13-year-old girl, who was being taken to her school by her father on Monday morning, died after being run over by a State-run small bus near Pallavaram. The driver of the bus surrendered to the police after the accident.

The deceased girl was identified as Aaliya, a resident of Gurusammy Nagar in Anakaputhur. Aaliya was a Class 8 student of private school in Teynampet. Police said Aaliya’s father Amjad, a businessman, usually dropped her at school in the morning. After classes are over, she would return home by bus in the evening.
On Monday morning, Aaliya was heading to her school on the two-wheeler driven by her father when the accident happened. As they were on Pammal Nallathambi Road, Amjad tried to overtake the Polichalur-Chromepet small bus operate by MTC. However, he lost control of the bike, following which both father and daughter fell on the road. Amjad escaped with minor injuries, but Aaliya, who fell on the other side, came under the rear wheels of the bus and died on the spot. The driver of the bus, Arumugam (50), stopped the vehicle and went to the Pallavaram police station to surrender himself.
The Pallavaram Police team and Chromepet traffic investigation police arrived at the spot and sent the body to Chromepet government hospital for post-mortem examination. Chromepet traffic investigation police have registered a case and arrested driver Arumugam.
