Meanwhile, the injured Prabhakar died without responding to the treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday. The arrested was identified as Babu, a driver of a private firm at Padalam. The deceased Prabhakar (31), a tailor from Pudur village in Madurantakam, was married to Janaki (28) five years ago. The couple had no children despite undergoing treatment.
Recently, Prabhakar became friends with Babu, who introduced himself as a part-time astrologer. Babu called Prabhakar and his wife for a pooja on a full moon day, which would help them conceive a baby. He called them to a deserted construction site in Thamaraithangal village. Babu asked the couple to close their eyes and not to open till the pooja is over. Later, he took a huge stone and smashed Prabhakar’s head with it.Â
With severe injuries, Prabhakar became unconscious. Babu attacked Janaki and snatched her 11-sovereign gold chain and fled the spot. Babu was arrested near Tindivanam bus stop on Wednesday morning.
