“A tender was floated inviting bids to undertake the restoration works on this stretch. We will soon award the contract and commence the works in another two weeks,” said an assistant engineer from the department.
On an average, more than 15,000 vehicles traverse this busy stretch on a single day. In addition, it also accommodates Koyambedu Mofussil Bus terminus which witnesses a regular movement of heavy vehicles round-the-clock.
“Those on two-wheelers have a tough time as few patches of the road remain in a bad shape. There is no alternative road for this stretch. It has been a harrowing experience, as the dust is kicked up when bigger vehicles pass through these bad patches,” a motorist said.
“The Tangedco and Greater Chennai Corporation dug up the road for civic works. We will be working on patches located at different places along the stretch. As part of it, restoration of the partially damaged road will be undertaken,” said a Highways official.
Under this project, the milling of road and widening of the stretch up to 3 meters would be carried out. “The vehicular traffic will not be adversely affected, as the labourers will be working on a small patch of road at a time,” said an official. The project is excepted to be completed in two months from its commencement.
