    Chennai

We are only halfway into January and a host of new brands are entering the city and we have several local entrepreneurs to thank for. For those of us who like doing up our homes, walk-in design/decor store options are quite limited in Chennai.I’m sure we all know of friends who took a weekend trip to Hyderabad to shop at IKEA or to Bengaluru to check out furniture options. Others have ordered beautiful items online but sometimes you just need to touch and feel a piece of furniture or simply sit on it before you take it home.

Bent Chair, ever since they came into existence, have been making quite the splash in the interior design scene. I remember hearing about the brand when I dined at Plum Café and I was so distracted by all the furniture to order that the waiter had to circle back to our table. I left the café that day with a long wishlist and a website I wanted to check out and possibly get a new home so I can fit everything on my checklist. I’m racking my brain to figure out who took me to that café or who I shared that meal with — I can’t remember but I remember the chair I sat on and the beautiful urban jungle-esque plant chandelier above our table.

I got a sneak peak of the Bent Chair store that is being launched in the city on Chamiers Road this Saturday and it’s everything I dreamt of. They even have adorable flying pigs on the wall; this is wonderland where even hyperbole gets translated into handcrafted resin art pieces. Interior designer Sagar Hindocha and his wife Krushita, who comes from a marketing background, is the duo who behind the Chennai franchise. For once, we have had a brand enter our city before Bengaluru and while we are being petty let’s do a little victory dance!

The store in Chennai is designed by Sagar and his design firm Pallav Interiors.

He tells me, “I have been following the brand from their launch a little over two years ago (in Delhi). They are the only company that makes all their furniture in-house unlike the competition so they offer customisation, which is what drew my attention. They also have well -designed pieces of furniture and a wide variety of décor items that I was getting custom-made or sourced from abroad. My clientele — both residential and commercial — liked their products very much. So, when I was exploring the possibility of taking up the Chennai franchise I went to their manufacturing unit in Ambala and was quite impressed with their design and production processes. In a little over six months, we are ready to open our doors to the public.”
