Kodanad case: Both accused granted bail
Kodanad heist case suspects K V Sayan and ‘Walayar’ Manoj, arrested by Chennai police for allegedly linking Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to the case in a video statement, completed the surety formalities for their bail on Friday at a magistrate court in Egmore.
Chennai
The two were arrested by CCB sleuths on January 13 in Delhi and brought to Chennai the day after.
The court refused to remand them in judicial custody, as asked by the police, due to improper submission of enough evidences. They were asked to appear before the court again on Friday.
The video of the suspects was released by Mathew Samuel, CEO of Narada News, in Delhi last week.
The Chief of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court S Malarvizhi granted bail to Sayan and Manoj after they furnished a surety bond of Rs 10,000 each. Earlier on Friday, the counsel representing them had sought time to furnish the surety. However, the court refused to entertain the plea and directed them to complete the formalities.
The counsel argued that the order of the vacation magistrate on January 14 night was not clear and since the courts were closed due to Pongalholidays, they were unable to furnish the bonds immediately.
The court had asked the counsel to complete the procedure by 5.45 pm on Friday. Around 4 pm, he provided the sureties and the magistrate granted the bail.
The two persons accused in the murder of a security guard in the Kodanad estate retreat of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa were arrested and booked on charges of causing hatred between people by their statements in the documentary on deaths of certain people connected to the Kodanad case.
