    Pongal rush: 250 additional buses to be operated for four days in city

    This Pongal, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is operating 250 additional buses connecting six major termini. The services began on Friday and are available for passengers round-the-clock.

    The six major termini, include Madhavaram new bus terminus, Tambaram (MEPZ), Tambaram Railway station, Poonamallee, Dr MGR Koyambedu bus stand and KK Nagar.


    A total of 25 MTC buses will be operated for better connectivity from Madhavaram. Of these, five ‘121 cut services’ will be operated from Dr MGR Koyambedu stand, five ‘114’ buses from Red Hills bus shelter, two ‘121F’ buses from Tambaram and five ‘121H’ (from Tambaram to Kaviyarasu Kannadasa Nagar), three ‘57F’ buses from High Court to Karanodai and five ‘157’ buses from Tiruvottiyur to Red Hills will be on service.


    Meanwhile, 78 additional buses will be operated to improve connectivity from MEPZ and Tambaram bus stand. Of them, 13 buses (bus numbers 21 G and E 18) will be operated from Broadway to Vandalur and Guduvancherry. Around 15 buses (bus numbers 91 and 95) will be operated from Thiruvanmiyur to Tambaram and Tambaram MEPZ. Five buses (V51 and 99 cut service) will be operated from T Nagar and Sholinganallur to reach Tambaram West. Nearly 50 buses will be operated, including bus routes ‘99’ (Adyar), ‘51’ (Velachery), ‘517’ cut (Kovalam), ‘500’ (Chengalpattu), ‘517’ (Vadanemili), ‘583’ (Sriperumbudur) and ‘555’ (Thiruporur) to Tambaram MEPZ.


    Also, two ‘515’ buses will be operated from Mahabalipuram to Tambaram. A total of 77 buses will be operated to Poonamallee terminus to various places including Red Hills, Ambattur estate, Tambaram, T Nagar, Broadway, Tiruvottiyur, Dr MGR Koyambedu bus terminus, Mandaveli and T Nagar.


    Around 27 buses will be operated from KK Nagar bus terminus. In a detail, five ‘T 70’ buses from Thiruvanmiyur to Koyambedu bus terminus, five ‘G70’ from Koyambedu bus terminus to Guduvancherry, two ‘5E’ buses from Vadapalani to Besant Nagar, five ‘M70’ buses from Koyambedu terminus to Thiruvanmiyur (Via Ashok Pillar), five ‘18 M’ buses from Vadapalani to Tambaram, three ‘D70’ buses from Velachery to Ambattur Estate and two ‘70’ buses from Tambaram to Avadi.


    Three ‘159A’ buses will be operated from Tiruvottiyur to Koyambedu terminus. He additional services will continue until January 14.
