The arrested persons were identified as Surya (31), Raja Sekar (28) and Muthu Kumar (30) from Nedukundram. Surya has 55 cases pending against him, including eight murders and several attempt to murder cases.

When the Peerkankaranai police were involved in a vehicle check on Perungalathur–Kolapakkam Road on Sunday night, a car passed them without stopping. The police chased the vehicle and stopped it at gunpoint. The men inside were identified as Surya and his friends.

After preliminary investigation, the police said that they had planned to kill rival gang members – Vinoth and his associate Raja. The vehicle check in the area was intensified after the police got a tip-off that Surya and his gang were spotted in the area with weapons. The police also seized a gun and other weapons from them. All the three were arrested and sent to Puzhal prison.

Surya had been illegally running country bomb manufacturing unit in Nedukundram. Last year, the police arrested at least four women, who were employed in his ‘explosive manufacturing’ factory last year. He was also accused in two cases of throwing country made bombs to kill his rivals.
