Cop plants ganja to fix man, CCTV puts him in dock
A head constable, who tried to fix a friend by planting ganja in the latter’s two-wheeler after summoning him for an inquiry, was booked in narcotics case and is also facing departmental action. The cop, now on the run, wanted to take revenge on his friend, a man with disability, for taking a video while he was having a drink in uniform.
Chennai
Last week, Ramadurai, a 39-year-old police head constable attached to Sankar Nagar police station, had a drink with Arumugham and Sathish Kumar (44), a person with disability at a place they met up during weekends. Sathish took a video of Ramadurai drinking while wearing the uniform, which led to a quarrel. That prompted the cop to devise a plan to take revenge.
First, Arumugham filed a complaint of assault against Sathish, following which Ramadurai officially summoned him for inquiry. When he reached the station, the policeman asked him to come inside. During the questioning, Ramadurai said he was aware of Sathish’s narcotics business, a charge which Sathish denied vehemently. The cop then walked to Sathish’s bike and took out 200 gm ganja parcel from a pouch covering the fuel tank.
Ramadurai told the station sub inspector that he caught a drug peddler red-handed near the police station and asked Sathish to be immediately placed under arrest. When the SI, who had been watching the drama, was hesitant to proceed, Ramadurai called up Commissioner’s office to inform about his ‘narcotics seizure’.
As the Sankar Nagar inspector was not in the station, Pallavaram crime inspector was asked to rush to the station and conduct inquiry. Though Ramadurai insisted that he had seized narcotics, the inspector checked the CCTV footage and found Arumugham keeping a parcel in Sathish’s bike.
Following this, police arrested Arumugham, who confessed that it was Ramadurai who gave him the parcel and asked him to keep it inside Sathish’s bike.
The Sankar Nagar police said Ramadurai, cited as accused number 1, is missing, and added that they were inquiring from where he procured the ganja.
